DocLokr ("we," "us," or "our") provides a secure platform for verified document exchange. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, how we protect it, and the choices you have. It applies to the DocLokr web application, our SMS notification program, and any related services we operate.
1. Information We Collect
When you create or use a DocLokr account, we may collect:
- Contact information — your name, email address, and mobile phone number.
- Identity verification data — selfie images and photographs of a government-issued ID, used to confirm you are the person authorized to receive a Locker.
- Location information — the approximate location from which you verify your identity, used to help the sender confirm the exchange.
- Document content — files, instructions, and messages you upload or send through DocLokr.
- Account activity — login events, device information, and other technical details necessary to operate the service securely.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate, maintain, and secure the DocLokr platform.
- Verify the identity of users participating in a Locker exchange.
- Send account-related notifications by SMS or email (for example, when a Locker is shared with you, is nearing expiration, or has changed status).
- Respond to support requests and communicate with you about your account.
- Comply with applicable legal obligations.
3. SMS Notifications
DocLokr sends transactional SMS messages containing a secure, tappable link used to exchange documents. A mobile number enters our SMS program in exactly one way: you confirm it yourself on a DocLokr web page and give your own consent.
- A professional firm using DocLokr (for example, a law firm you are working with) emails you a three-word passphrase. That email contains no link and no token.
- You go to doclokr.com under your own power, choose I Have a Pass Phrase, and enter the passphrase.
- You are then shown the last four digits of your own mobile number so you can confirm which number the message would go to, and you check a consent box that is unchecked by default. The submit button stays disabled until you check it. No text message is sent until you do.
- While our messaging campaign is being reviewed, no text messages are sent at all — your secure link is emailed to you instead, after you have opted in.
- A full screen-by-screen walkthrough of this consent experience is published at doclokr.com/sms-opt-in.html.
- Messages are transactional and are triggered by your own consent. They are not marketing, and message frequency is one message per document exchange.
- Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile carrier and plan.
- You can reply STOP to any DocLokr SMS to immediately unsubscribe. Reply HELP for help.
- Mobile information collected for SMS notifications is used only to deliver those notifications.
- We keep a record of your consent — the mobile number, the date and time, the source IP address, and the exact consent text you were shown — so that we can evidence it if a carrier asks.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties. Your mobile number is not sold, rented, traded, or disclosed to any third party except the messaging carrier required to deliver your text message.
4. How We Share Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We do not share your personal information with third parties for their marketing or promotional purposes. We may share information only in these limited circumstances:
- With other parties in a Locker exchange — for example, the sender of a Locker will see the identity evidence you provide to join it. That is the purpose of the service.
- With service providers we use to operate DocLokr — such as cloud hosting, SMS delivery (Twilio), and identity verification providers — under contracts that require them to protect your data and use it only to provide their services to us.
- When required by law — to comply with a valid legal request, court order, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of DocLokr, our users, or others.
5. Data Security
We protect your information using industry-standard security measures. Wire instructions, identity evidence, and other sensitive data are encrypted in transit and at rest. Access is restricted to authorized personnel and to the specific Locker participants you are exchanging with. No system is perfectly secure, but we work continuously to keep your data safe.
6. Data Retention
We retain your information only as long as it is needed to provide the service or to meet legal obligations. Sensitive data associated with a completed Locker exchange is removed once the exchange is complete. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at the address below.
7. Your Choices
- SMS — reply STOP to any message to unsubscribe. You can also simply decline to consent: if you do not check the consent box, no text message is ever sent.
- Account — you can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information by contacting support.
- Cookies — most browsers allow you to control cookies through their settings.
8. Children's Privacy
DocLokr is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so we can remove it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the application or by other reasonable means. The "Effective date" at the top of this page reflects the latest revision.
